Beginning in 2022, the LASG added the Indigenous College Basketball All Star Men's and Women's Games as part of the event. Since then, players from programs such as Wichita State, University of South Dakota, Haskell Indian Nations, Minnesota West and United Tribes, to name a few, have participated. Players from Indigenous backgrounds such as Lakota, Three Tribes Affiliated, Ojibwe, Crow, Northern Cheyenne, Maori of New Zealand, Navajo, and others have taken part in the event to celebrate Indigenous excellence at the collegiate level!
Levels represented in the college game: NCAA D1, NCAA D2, NCAA D3, NAIA, NJCAA D1, NJCAA D2, NJCAA D3, AIHEC (Tribal Colleges), California Community College Athletic Association, Canada University Sports.
Participants in this event are selected on an "invite-only" basis, meaning players are invited. The process begins in the summer time and high school players are scouted at events such as LNI, DOC, NABI, summer league and other events. For high schoolers, players can only participate, or be selected once, in their prep career, regardless
Participants in this event are selected on an "invite-only" basis, meaning players are invited. The process begins in the summer time and high school players are scouted at events such as LNI, DOC, NABI, summer league and other events. For high schoolers, players can only participate, or be selected once, in their prep career, regardless if they get a hardship for an extra year or not. A maximum of three players from any one high school team will be allowed to play in the all star game. There is no guarantee that every school, or team, will have a representative.
College players are identified throughout the season based on their play and participation with their current team. NCAA and NAIA rules and bylaws only allow academic seniors who have completed their eligibility to participate in all star games, so only players from NCAA and NAIA schools who meet this rule will be invited. Players from JUCO, Tribal Colleges and other collegiate leauges/associations will be considered.
All decisions regarding selections, replacements and participation are at the discretion of the event director. Please keep in mind that in our Lakota way, it is an honor to be invited to such as an event.

The event started in 2019 at Loneman School, near Oglala, South Dakota. The second year was planned for the spring of 2020, but was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2021, the event was held at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center's Don Barnett Arena as one of the last events in its full capacity. The arena was downsized to a fieldhouse and the Summit Arena was completed at the newly branded Monument. The Lakota All Star Games event has been held at the Summit Arena ever since!
Dale Pine Jr. is back for his sixth year in 2025 as the event director. He is a member of the Oglala Lakota Nation and also has Santee Dakota roots. He enjoys watching sports, especially basketball, and this event is a culmination of his passion for highlighting Indigenous youth.
